There have been so many times in my life that I was “missing the
point” of what I was doing or what I was going through. For example, I have been
guilty of getting it wrong about this calling God has placed on my life. That’s
why it has taken me over two years to write another blog post. I have been
shamed into quietness LOL.

I struggle with cleaning my house, but the point of cleaning
my house is not to impress anybody. The point of cleaning my house is so that
we can have order, peace of mind, and we can be hospitable, welcoming people
into our home without getting all bent out of shape. I have not arrived yet,
but I have faith that I will. And when I do arrive, the point will never be to blow
people away with my awesome house LOL. When I throw birthday parties for my
kids, the point is not to make everyone happy and stress myself out making it a
Martha Stewart party with from scratch recipes (I have always said I dislike
hosting, especially birthday parties). The point is to love people and to love
my kids. The point is yet another opportunity for us to gather together in
love. The point is to make beautiful memories for my family and it’s another
small way for me to show my kids how much I care about them. The point of my
washing machine breaking and having to lug eight trash bags of laundry to the laundromat
every week is not so I have a chance to whine and complain and pity myself. The
point is to speak to hurting and lonely souls at the laundromat and draw them
back to Jesus, by the work of the Holy Spirit.

The point of my personal growth
in Christ and personal revelations are not so I can brag about what an awesome
human being I am or how smart and wise I am. It’s to glorify God by showing how
powerfully and wonderfully God can transform someone and to give hope and truth
to a world of broken people. The point of God giving me the gift and anointing to sing is
not so I can perform earth shattering solos that put everyone in awe. It’s not
to be famous or to earn millions. Again, it’s to glorify God and draw souls to
Him. It to bring specific messages to people that God wants to deliver. It’s to break strongholds and heavy burdens that people are carrying. It’s
to help them be set free from the enslavement from sin, addictions, fear,
anxiety, and depression, and to walk in light and truth toward the hope of
eternal life with Jesus!

The point of everything happening in my life doesn't have a whole lot to do with me! I can stop fretting if things are not going the way I
planned, because it’s not about my plan! The point of the life God gave me is
to be a “good and faithful servant” and to “do everything as unto the Lord". I’m
starting to get the point of what I have gone through and what I have been
given, and that makes me very happy.

Life in Jesus makes a lot more sense and brings a lot more
peace and joy when we start to get the point.

One of my girlfriends encouraged me to post to my blog since it’s been a while…you know, I am really thankful for the encouragers and the exhorters. God really uses them in a big way in my life.

One music ministry related update is that God is enabling me to get fully adjusted at my church and they have welcomed me onto their praise team, which is both exciting and humbling! I honestly haven’t felt worthy, technically speaking, and I am not even a very bold person. Most people say I come across timid in person. This church is large compared to churches I have attended for over the past couple of decades, but I am learning God doesn’t like us to stay in one place for long, spiritually speaking…He wants us to grow from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:16-18)! Actually, there were many years as a teen when church for me was in my bedroom studying the Bible and praying by myself and listening to a preacher on television, and when being used by God on a stage was unfathomable for me! I am thankful that God, my husband, and some people at this church were both persistent and patient with me so that I may grow in this way. I am also thankful for the people God has placed in my life since childhood who have prayed for me and supported me. I know I am no spiritual giant, but God has brought me a very long way, and He has delivered me from my own personal Egypt!

Another positive thing that happened recently was that the pastor of my church challenged us to kick off the New Year with a 21 day fast called the Daniel Fast. He basically challenged us to simplify our diet, cut back on technology, and plug in more with God, prayer, the Word, our life, our families, etc…I don’t think I have really fasted since I was a child. I believe there is a lot to be said about doing things as a group, in which there is encouragement and accountability! I definitely didn’t do a perfect job of executing this fast, but I truly believe God rewarded my efforts and sacrifices, as little as they were. After talking with my husband, we decided to fast from eating out and from sweets completely…now there may have been some frozen or prepared dinners from the grocery store and some things with small sugar content, but we stopped eating out and cut out sugary things like candy, pastries, ice cream, flavored creamers, soft drinks, lattes, and any kind of desserts. I honestly thought this was going to be very hard, because I ate quite a bit of sugar every day and ate out at least a few times a week, not counting special coffees like lattes and iced mochas (basically a chocolate coffee LOL), but little did I know that God had prepared me! He prepared me by giving me a great discontent about certain things in my life, like my addiction to technology, my addiction to unhealthy foods, and my very messy house…yes, my house had fallen away since my “Cleaning House” blog post. Sighs…As a side note, I really think balance is important in life. I don’t think cleaning house should be the only priority, but I also think it should be on the priority list! We can take anything to extremes, and I am an extreme type of person so God is teaching me boundaries! I am not aiming for a perfect house, just a house that helps my family achieve peace in the home and allows us to be even stronger and more focused in other areas of our life.

Right before the fast, God blessed me with the money to buy a Kindle, which was money I got for my birthday. This is something I have wanted for years. And then He instructed me not to clutter my Kindle like my house is cluttered, and to simply put one Bible and one book about getting my house in order. I didn’t know what book that would be, but after a little research, I found the right book for me. I am hesitant to say the name because I don’t know if it would be right for everyone, but God knew the right one for me! It was written by a Christian author decades ago, so some of her ideas were a little outdated, but her sense of humor, her understanding about the mind of a cluttered person, and her good, common sense and simple ideas were just what I needed to motivate and inspire me!

Now that the fast is over and I have read most of that book, I will tell you some of the ways God blessed me through obedience:

1) I have a closer walk with God.
2) My faith is stronger.
3) Some of my old optimism and passion has returned.
4) I have lost 7 pounds. (I know what you’re thinking. Everyone says I don’t need to lose weight but I was about 25 pounds heavier than before I had kids so I had a desire to lose some of that.)
5) I have found new inspiration and motivation to get my house in order. So far, all three bedroom closets are organized, my family room is organized, my husband’s desk is organized, all of our paperwork in the house is under control and filed away in filing cabinets, and my kids’ rooms are organized.
I still have a long way to go, but it’s a good start!

Please pray for me to be persistent and continue to grow in all of these areas and most of all in my walk with God. And I pray that God will encourage and grow you as well! Here are the scriptures that have been an encouragement to me in the past couple of months:

Hebrews 11:6: And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

Matthew 5:6: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Matthew 6:33: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Psalms 37:4-5: Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him and He will do this.

Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Philippians 1: 6: being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Nehemiah 8:10: Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Philippians 4:4-9: Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. "The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Thanks for your time and as always, stay in touch! E-mail or comment and I will respond!

God bless,
Love,

I felt strongly led to leave, and consequently I miss you all so much more! Please feel free to stay in touch in other mediums of communication!

It's been almost 3 months since my last blog post. So many times I wanted to write, but I didn't know what to say. All I can say is, God is doing a work in me, and I'm not quite sure where I'm headed, and it's been REAL uncomfortable, but at the same time, I know that there's a lot of truth in the saying "no pain; no gain"...so I will happily endure the pain in expectancy of the gain!

What has the pain been? A lot of things: my family's major transition in the church, studying new truths in the Word that I am struggling to understand and apply to my life, the Holy Spirit revealing to me my weaknesses that I need to confess and submit to God, feeling even more separated from the world than before as a result of shutting down Facebook, taking one step forward and two steps backwards in music, while trying to manage these cries of my heart along with the responsibilities of being a wife and mothering two toddlers, etc...

But I am learning that while the things God reveals to me are often painful, it proves to me even more than ever that I cannot rely on myself for the strength to be who God wants me to be. I can only rely on God. Somehow I previously leaned on a false philosophy that I didn't even know I had, that I am strong enough and good enough all on my own...I knew in my head that I was more than a conqueror only through Christ, but I was not always living that day to day and not always going to God for the strength I needed. This is one of my missions this year: I want to rely on the bread of life. I want to live and breath the Word and God's presence!

I want to challenge you all to think about this too! Examine yourselves!

I have a new Facebook page (not a personal account) and a Twitter page to provide music updates and daily thoughts. I have a new song Can't Wait to Meet You that I want you to check out also. It's about love of a parent and the love of God...

Here are some links for you:

Sarah's Twitter(or look up SarahVministry on Twitter)
Sarah's Facebook page (or look up Sarah Von Bergen on Facebook)
Can't Wait to Meet You video (song available for download on BandCamp, iTunes, and Amazon)

God bless you all!
Love,
Sarah

P.S. In memory of 9/11, let us pray for this nation, that it once again be one nation under God that relies heavily on the power of God!
<!--

This is an important topic to understand because God judges our hearts and motivations. Our motivations in life and what we pursue is so important because it impacts what we do and how useful we are for godly Kingdom purposes. If you are striving for acquisition, promotion, and fortune, all of your decisions will be affected by this motivation, rather than the motivation to please God and bear HIS fruits.

First I will show many of the scriptures that people frequently misunderstand and misinterpret to be applied to the concept of Christian prosperity, in terms of financial gain.

Hebrews 11:6: And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

What is the reward? Many say it’s financial prosperity. But if you read the chapter around this verse, you will see the rewards are: overcoming and conquering adversity, obtaining righteousness and eternal life, and in the case of Abraham and Sarah, “as many descendants as the stars in heaven.” In fact, in this same chapter, the Lord speaks of how faith and obedience led some of the great men of God to WALK AWAY from the path that led to earthly riches. For example, Abraham “went out not knowing where he was going…living as an alien…dwelling in tents.” Moses walked away from his cushy position in the kingdom of Egypt because he chose “rather to endure ill treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, considering the reproach of Christ greater than the treasures of Egypt.”

Matthew 6:33: But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Many say or imply that “all these things” is prosperity, riches, and everything you want. In the context, Jesus was trying to tell people to stop thinking about acquiring things and to just trust God and His plan. Set your heart and mind on righteousness and Kingdom purposes. He said when you do this, your needs will be met. You don’t have to worry about it…needs like food, clothes, and shelter, not everything you covet. In this same chapter, Jesus says when you pray, say “give us this day our daily bread.” He also says: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV): “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

NIV is a newer version of the Bible. If you read other versions (I like to do this on Biblegateway.com), you will see the word prosper is not even in the verse. Additionally, once again, context is important. God is talking to Israelites in exile, who He allowed to go into captivity in Babylon for 70 years. He is telling them to stop listening to “prophets” who are telling the Israelites that God will free them in the immediate future, and reminded them that they will still be in captivity for the full 70 years. But in this specific verse, He is giving them hope that He will deliver them from that captivity after that time. He is speaking to a specific people at a specific place and time in history.

Psalms 37:4: “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.”

Many interpret this to say, if you are a Christian, God will give you what you want. In reality, there is no real “if and then” statement here. If it was, you could say: I want to be a millionaire! I will become a Christian so God can do that for me. The verse doesn’t say God will give you the lusts of your heart, the things you covet, and the things your flesh desires. I believe what this is really saying is when you delight in the Lord, that means his principals of how to live life, how to love, how to bear fruits, and how to spend time in God’s presence and God’s Word are things you delight in. You strive to be Christ-like in your mind, heart, and actions. The more you strive for this, the more you are delighting yourself in the Lord. Then, the old fleshly desires you used to have are disappearing, because Jesus didn’t desire earthly riches, so the desires of your heart that God will give you don’t have anything to do with material gain. In this same chapter, David says not to be jealous of people who seem prosperous. He says to focus on doing good, being faithful, and being righteous. He says to commit your way to the Lord, not to be committed to your own way or to the way of the wicked. It says in verse 16 and 18: “Better is the little of the righteous than the abundance of many wicked. The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will be forever.” In this chapter, David is urging believers to stop focusing on short-term gain, but instead focus on the eternal gain of the kingdom of God.

John 10:10: (Jesus said) The thief doth not come, except that he may steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they may have life, and may have abundantly.

Jesus is not speaking of abundance in terms of earthly possessions. In this chapter, He is talking about the reason He came to earth. He came because the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy us. But God is a good shepherd and cares about saving his sheep, so He came to lay down His life for us so that we may have life abundantly. Life abundantly is another way of saying eternal life well after we pass away on this earth. If you look at the descriptions of Heaven in the Bible, it sure looks more like the picture people get in their minds when they think of an abundant life! The purpose of Jesus’ coming is reiterated in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

Luke 11:9-10 says “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened."

How do I know Jesus is talking about praying for spiritual things rather than material things? Because in verse 13, He says “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” This goes back to seeking first and foremost in your life righteousness and Kingdom purposes.

Luke 6:38: Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed, and shaken, and running over, they shall give into your bosom; for with that measure with which ye measure, it shall be measured to you again.

In the context of this chapter, Jesus is talking about what we give out, whether it be love or hate, blessings or cursings, returning evil with kindness or with contempt, passing judgment or showing grace and mercy, and of course, giving of our possessions…this passage says there is a difference between giving to those from whom you expect to receive something back versus someone who will probably not return the favor. This verse can be compared to Galatians 6:7-10: Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Many interpret this to mean they can achieve anything they want because they’re a Christian or because of Christ’s provision for them. In the verses surrounding this, Paul is explaining how we need to keep our mind fixed on God, fixed on truth, and with positive thoughts. He also says he has learned how to be content in all circumstances, whether he has a little or a lot, even if he is going hungry! He thanks the people he is speaking to for their sacrificial love gift to him to support him as he ministers, and he says that God will supply their needs. He didn’t say anything about 10-fold, 100-fold, or 1,000 fold financial reward in return for their giving. So back to the verse, when read in the context, it clearly means that Paul can suffer any trials and circumstances because God’s grace strengthens him to do so. It has nothing to do with personal selfish ambition.

Malachi 3:10: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.”

Again, this requires an understanding of the context. In this case, at this time in history, the Israelites were bound to keep all of the commandments, statutes, and ordinances of the law. (Note that the topics of tithing, old covenant, and new covenant are separate discussions that cannot be addressed entirely in this blog post). But at this point in time, they had turned away from obeying a lot of the law. This passage said the people were cursed for robbing God, but He promised that if they tithed, their crops would be blessed. He promised He would not destroy their crops, but would prosper their crops. But note that not tithing wasn’t the only reason the people were cursed. Malachi 2:2 says “If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.” Verses 7-9: “For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.” Malachi 4:4 reiterates the importance of the Israelites keeping the entirety of the law of Moses: “Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.” The entire book of Malachi was calling out the Israelites and the Levital priesthood for not following and enforcing the law of Moses and explaining they were under the curse for this reason. He was saying if they followed all of their required laws at that time, the curse would be removed, and their land would be blessed. Again, the context of the language in this verse was intended for a specific time and a specific people.

Many people point at the prosperity of some of God’s people in the Bible and say that is proof God wants Christians to be prosperous. But in doing this, people omit or forget the people who lived in poverty or having just enough but were also counted as righteous and faithful. I am not saying that God wants all of His people to be poor. It’s not that He wants them all to be wealthy in earthly riches either. The bottom line is that wealth should not be an expectation or life goal for a Christian. It then easily becomes an idol. It becomes the motivation for the choices someone makes in life. It leads to a lot of little compromises that seem harmless, but turn into walking a different path than God intended.

What did Jesus say about this idea of desiring and coveting earthly wealth and possessions?

Matthew 6:24, 31-33: No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth… Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles (unbelievers) eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 19:21-24: Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property. And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

The entire chapter of Matthew 25 is Jesus speaking of how we must be good stewards of time and resources God has given us by using them to give back to the purposes of the Lord.

Mark 4:18-19: And others are the ones on whom seed (the Word of God) was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Mark 8:34-38: And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Luke 3:11: And he would answer and say to them, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.”

Luke 6:20-26: And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.

Luke 12:15, 19-21, 29-34: Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions…And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”…And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Luke 16:10-15: He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were scoffing at Him. And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.

Luke 21:1-4: And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins. And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on.”

Other related scriptures

Proverbs 16:8: Better is a little with righteousness than great income with injustice.

Proverbs 30:8-9: (Excerpt from a prayer) Keep deception and lies far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion, that I not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the LORD?” Or that I not be in want and steal, and profane the name of my God.

Philippians 4:11-13: …(Paul said) I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Acts 20:33-35: (Paul said) I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or clothes. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to the men who were with me. In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

1 Timothy 6:5-12: (Regarding false doctrine) that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

2 Timothy 3:1-5, 13: But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these… But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2 Timothy 4:3-4: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Revelations 3:15-21: I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

Sometimes the things we pursue seem innocent or justifiable, but as it says in Proverbs 21:2: “Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts.” The reason I share these scriptures is to show you that God’s idea of prospering you as a Christian is to make you more and more like Him and to pursue God and His purposes and eternal life. If God blesses someone with more than they need, this is not so that they can just keep accumulating things; it is so that they can be a blessing and be the light of God in the world. So let us stop striving for the things our flesh desires, and really pursue righteousness in Christ.

1 John 2:15-17: Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
<!--

Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.”

This reminds me of brothers Cain and Abel. Abel pleased the Lord with his obedience. Cain made a sacrifice of his choosing, but he didn’t please the Lord because he did not obey.

With true faith, we trust God, His word, His plan, and His direction…not our own. Often we make ourselves busy doing things that seem good, but those things are less than God’s best for us, and for the people around us, and many times those things are idols in our life.

A personal example is a while back I felt the Lord leading me to shut down my Facebook account. I couldn’t understand why because I reasoned that Facebook was one of my witnessing tools and enabled me to stay in touch with everyone. But the longer I stayed out of God’s will, the more miserable I felt. My spirit was grieving! As soon as I made the decision to follow God on this, it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I felt freer, and my mind was less cluttered. Suddenly, doors were opening for me to do other things. Sometimes we cannot move forward in the good things God has for us until we let go of the baggage He is leading us to let go of! Addiction is powerful, but our God is more powerful! We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).

On a musical note, I was able to record one of my songs yesterday, and I’m really excited to share it once it is completely finished in the studio. I will take any and all tips on getting this song out there, as at this point, I do not have a music manager!

Love and God bless!

Sarah
<!--

You don’t just get saved…you have taken on a new lifestyle! First, you must be repentant of your sins. Secondly, you must believe and accept Jesus as Savior. Thirdly, you must be baptized in water and by the Holy Spirit. Many people get baptized in water and not by the Holy Spirit, when the Holy Spirit is actually more important because that is how you proceed to live the rest of your life for Christ: by God living in you and guiding you in the form of the Holy Spirit! I cannot stress this enough.

Someone mentioned to me that they think water baptism is no longer a requirement. Well, there are certainly enough scriptures to support baptism, and many are in the New Testament! And let me ask you this….is it easier to debate the topic your whole life and possibly be wrong, or to get baptized? Baptism is a public display of your faith in Jesus, a symbol of His death and resurrection, and it is a symbol of you washing away the sinful nature of the old man and become a new creature in Christ! How hard is it to get baptized? If you want to avoid this small step, how will you endure a lifetime of Christianity and trials?

The fourth and final step I want to discuss in regard to living out Christianity is obedience and fleeing from sin! Some people overemphasize scriptures about grace and think that is a license to live however they please! This is a lie from the enemy to steal people…souls…from God!

Ephesians 4:22-24 says: You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

God wants us to put off our old fleshly, sinful nature and start putting on Christ, becoming more and more Christ-like! No, we will not be exactly like Jesus because we all have different callings, different personalities, different gifts, etc...but we can start to have a nature and a mind that is Christ-like. That nature is righteousness and the fruits of the spirit: joy, peace, love, goodness, longsuffering (perseverance and patience), gentleness, meekness (humbleness), faithfulness, and self control (Galatians 5:22-23).

Romans chapter 6 explains how we are not to live like all we need is grace and that a life of righteousness and obedience isn’t important…Romans 6:1-2: What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Verses 15-23: What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! (Yes, he says that phrase again!) Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 2:12-18 describes working out your salvation!...Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Romans 12:1-3 instructs us to renew our minds and judge ourselves: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

Consider this…if someone tells you they’re sorry, but they would do what they did again in a heartbeat, then you would not consider them sorry, right? The same way if we repent of our sins, we show our true repentance by turning from sin. Acts 26:20 again says: I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

Galatians 5:13-26 clearly defines we have a right and wrong way to live and note that the important “fruits of the Spirit” are identified here, meaning how we demonstrate we are filled with God’s Holy Spirit (the fruits are worth mentioning twice): You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

James 2:14-26 basically says that faith without good works and obedience is no faith at all. It’s like saying you have faith that eating better will make you healthier, but yet you don’t eat better. Then, wouldn’t you agree that that faith is pretty useless? Here is the scripture: What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Luke 3:7-14: John the Baptist told the crowds of people coming to be baptized that they needed more than faith and baptism!! He said: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” “What should we do then?” the crowd asked. John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?” “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them. Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.”

Matthew 7:15-23 warns of people who may come in Jesus’ name but are not His children and that not everyone who believes in Jesus will be saved, just as mentioned above that the demons believe and tremble, but they will not be saved: Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Mark 8:34-38: Then he (Jesus) called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life (the way their flesh desires and wants to live) will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Mark 9:42-50 speaks metaphorically of getting rid of the things in our life that cause us to fall: If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched. ’Everyone will be salted with fire. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”

Hebrews 6:4-8;11-12 speaks of how you can fall away from faith if you’re not careful: It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned...We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Acts 10:34-36 reiterates that salvation is available to ANYONE through Jesus and obedience: Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

Galatians 6:7-9 speaks of how we will reap what we sow in life: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

The entire book of 1 John makes it as plain as day that sinfulness leads to eternal punishment and obedience to God and ceasing from sin leads to salvation! There is also a common theme of LOVE. God is LOVE (1 John 4:8) so a LOVE walk is vitally important! This means LOVE in ACTION! These are five short chapters you must read!

I have highlighted some verses that stand out to me:

Chapter 1:5-10: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Chapter 2:3-6: We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. 9-11: Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them. 15-17: Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Chapter 3:6: No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him. 8-10: The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. 13-18: Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 23-24: And this is His command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

Chapter 4:7-11: Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 16-21: God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Chapter 5:1-5: Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 10-12: Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
The entire book concludes on this verse! 21: Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

This is the bottom line of the Christian life! We lay down every thing that we place higher that God! We place God on the throne of our life! God is first!

2 Corinthians 10:4-5: The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I’m going to stop at strongholds for a second in case you never heard of that. Strongholds are things that control your life and your mind that are not God! Things like fear, insecurity, hate, unforgiveness, alcoholism, drug addictions, sexual promiscuity, pride, idols (other "gods"), lust for MORE and MORE, never being satisfied with the things you are blessed with! Also, ANYTHING that distracts you from God and consumes your time and your mind! It can be television, the computer, the internet, shopping, eating/gluttony, partying, being a workaholic (or the other extreme of laziness), money, people pleasing, and the list goes on and on! Examine yourself! What is distracting you? What are your idols? Do not be deceived into thinking everything you do is innocent and justifiable!!!

Psalms 101:3: I will not look with approval on anything that is vile (evil/sin).

James 4:1-10: What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

2 Corinthians 3:16-18 speaks of becoming more Christ-like over time as a Christian: But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (freedom from strongholds). And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Here’s a warning to watch our walk in Christ so that we do not fall: 1 Corinthians 10:5-12: God was not pleased with most of them (the Israelites in the wilderness with Moses); their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters (setting up idols to replace God), as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. And do not grumble (complaining and showing lack of faith), as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel. These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

Hebrews 10:24-31 speaks of the importance of gathering with other Christians and the importance of turning away from sin when you are a child of God: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God (Hell!). Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The entire chapter of 1 Timothy 4 speaks of the importance working out your faith, and that abandoning the faith IS possible!

Here are some highlights of that chapter: Think about this first verse, among other scriptures I am sharing in this post in comparison to the old saying and man-made belief of “once saved, always saved”…1: The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith…12-16: set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Read Revelations chapters 2 and 3 where seven churches are addressed. Without going into depth in these chapters, I will just summarize what these churches were rebuked for. In other words, they needed to make changes to be right in God’s eyes. Those things included: they had forsaken their first love for God, they had turned to idolatry and lust and other sins, they had false prophets who were speaking against the Word and condoning sin/immorality, they were dead in deeds (basically, the church had fallen asleep), and they were lukewarm in their faith, not having the fire and passion of Christ…Does this sound like the modern church at all?

When Jesus was asked, "what is the greatest commandment?", He answered in Matthew 22:37-40: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

In 1 Corinthians 5:13-16, I love how Paul says we should be willing to look like “we’re out of our minds” for Christ’s sake. We should be able to give up our reputation and approval in man’s eyes for the love of God: If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you (people). For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view (judging people the way the world judges people instead of the way God judges people and their hearts)…

1 Samuel 16:7: The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance (beauty, physical traits, composure, clothes, wealth), but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Jeremiah 17:10: I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”

In Luke 21, versus 1-4, Jesus looks at the heart of a poor woman: As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Is your heart tied up in worldly pleasures and treasures or does your heart belong to the Lord? Luke 12:34 says: where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:24: No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Matthew 25 paints a very sobering picture about judgement day! The day God separates His children from those who are not! Notice that it will have a lot to do what how we live out our Christianity! Verses 31-46: “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

God desires to find people who TRULY have a heart for Him! He wants to use them to be His light and He wants to bless them and strengthen them to do His work! 2 Chronicles 16:9 says: For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.

As a final thought…we as CHRISTians follow Christ! We do not follow denominations. We follow Christ and the Word! We need to get unified! Doesn’t this appeal from Paul sound much like the church today?! 1 Corinthians 1:10-17: I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

I love you and hope you have a wonderful, reflective, and thankful Thanksgiving that is full of love!

Sarah
<!--

So instead, I’ll just call these God’s Requirements for the Christian Life, and let the scriptures speak for themselves in regard to salvation and Christianity!

I feel a strong sense of urgency and importance in people reading and understanding these words and scriptures, so I encourage you to read it a couple times or read it and meditate pieces at a time if this is too much to digest in one reading! After all, it took me several days to write it, all glory and thanks to God!

If someone asked you how they can be saved or know Christ, can you really tell them? Could you lead them to Christ? Did you actually go through all of the steps yourself? I have listed four important steps, which I will be posting to my blog in two parts.

STEP ONE: CONFESSION/REPENTANCE OF SINS

Step one is admitting you have sinned and repenting of your sins. This is a step many in outreach skip because they don’t want to preach the ugly stuff…they want to lure people in with words like, accept Jesus into your life and He will give you a new and improved life! He will answer all your prayers!

Many only want to hear the feel good messages and things that make them happy and inspire them. They don’t want to hear the things that make them feel bad or convicted about themselves, and they don’t want to be taught or counseled about what they may be doing wrong, according to the Bible. And when the Christian life isn’t easy and gets hard, many “Christians” fall away. They didn’t count the cost (Luke 14:25-35) and part of that cost right up front is having a repentant attitude. Here is some of what the Bible says about our sinfulness and need to repent:

Romans 3:23: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Acts 3:19: Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out…

Acts 2:38: Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 6:12: They (Jesus’s disciples) went out and preached that people should repent.

Luke 24:47: (Jesus said) and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Mark 1:15: Repent and believe the good news!

Acts 26:20: I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

Acts 17:30: …now He commands all people everywhere to repent.

Acts 20:21: I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

1 John 1:8-10: If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word is not in us.

There are more scriptures the tell us to repent before accepting the Lord, but I hope those will suffice to convince you!

STEP TWO: BELIEVING IN AND ACCEPTING JESUS CHRIST AS SAVIOR AND WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE

Another important step that most Christians don’t have a problem with believing, but other religions do, is that Jesus is Savior and we must accept Him as your Lord and Savior in order to be saved for all eternity!

John 3:16 is the most quoted scripture to salvation and is often mistaken for the ONLY step to salvation: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 14:6-7: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.”

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 4:24-25: but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Acts 20:21 again: I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

John 17:2-3: For you granted him (Jesus) authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Romans 3:22: This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

Acts 4:11-12: Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected (abused, mocked, and crucified), which has become the cornerstone. ’Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

See Isaiah 53 to read a tragic but beautiful and moving prophesy of what Jesus did for YOU and me! PLEASE don’t let it be in vain…

2 Peter 3 is one of the many scriptures that warns and promises Jesus is coming again! Will you be ready?

STEP THREE: BAPTISM BY WATER AND THE HOLY SPIRIT

The next step is that we must be baptized in water and by the Holy Spirit! Being baptized in water symbolizes publicly our repentance and cleansing of our sins. It also symbolizes Jesus’s death by crucifixion and His resurrection. This is another one many people want to skip! Or they may get baptized in water but not by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God living inside of us! The Holy Spirit leads us, guides us, comforts us, ministers to us, manifests gifts and fruits of the Spirit through us, and even can intercede on our behalf! If the Holy Spirit is not in us, Christ is not in us, which is clearly stated a couple of the scriptures to follow. The Holy Spirit is not optional in being a Christian because He is part of the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; see this site for more about the Godhead).

As I mentioned earlier, people love to quote John 3:16 as the end all and be all of Christianity. However, that’s just PART of what this chapter and what the Word has written about the road to salvation. People too often take on verse out of context and you really MUST look at the surrounding and correlating scriptures! In that same chapter in verses 3-8: Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Acts 2:38 again: Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 3:5: People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

In Matthew 3:11, John the Baptist said: “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Mark 1:4: And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 28:19: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…

John 14:15-26: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

In Acts 1:4-5, Jesus reminds his disciples to wait on receiving the Holy Spirit: Wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:15-17: They prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:1-9 speaks of believing and of baptism by water and by the Holy Spirit as three different important steps: While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all. Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him…

Colossians 2:12 describes the symbolism of the water baptism: having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Romans 8:5-17 speaks of living by the flesh versus living by the Spirit. When the Word speaks of flesh, it speaks of our human nature and tendencies for sinfulness and selfishness: Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

1 Corinthians 2:10-16: these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

How to receive the Holy Spirit? You must repent, accept and believe in Jesus, be baptized in water, and then you can simply receive the Holy Spirit in faith or ask God to be filled by the Holy Spirit! Don’t believe me? This is what Jesus says in Luke 11:5-13 about asking: Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Read 1 Corinthians 12 about the gifts of the spirit, meaning the different gifts given to those who have received the Holy Spirit in order that they may be used of God. Keep in mind that it may take some time in the Word and in the Holy Spirit for these gifts to manifest, and you may have one or many!

I hope you have a blessed day in the Lord! For the first 30 years of my life, it was pretty much impossible for me to be a clean and organized person. I’m not quite sure how this happened, but I imagine it’s just a pattern of stinkin’ thinkin’ that resulted from some hard knocks and poor habits in life. But the devil likes to tell us that we are what we are! We are a product of our childhood, our circumstances, and our personality, and we cannot and should not try to control it or change it! We should just embrace it. This is a LIE! Yes, the Lord gave us each special gifts and purposes in life, and we should not pursue things that are not of God, BUT Jesus has died for us and left us with the Holy Spirit so that we can be saved and renewed! The Holy Spirit is our guide! There is a lot in the scripture about renewing ourselves through Christ:

John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Romans 12:2-3: Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Ephesians 4:22-24: You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Titus 3:4-8: But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

My father (earthly father) said something very wise to me once that I never forgot! He said that discontentment sometimes comes from God to try to take us out of our comfort zone and to make a change in our lives.

Of course discontentment is bad when you covet what someone else has and are not satisfied and thankful with your blessings. However, discontentment can be good when it is the Lord doing a new work in you! How can you know that you need to change or move forward if you are not convicted by the Holy Spirit with a sense of discontentment with the way you are acting or thinking?

Sometimes when we are convicted by the Holy Spirit, we let pride talk us out of responding and we become hard hearted and unable to hear from the Holy Spirit; or the conviction turns into self condemnation and depression because we realize that it is a problem but out of fear or whatever reason, instead of acting on it, we keep living with it. We need to realize that when the Holy Spirit convicts us, Christ has given us the power to change and be victorious!

Romans 8:37: We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Ephesians 3:20: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.

Mark 9:23: Everything is possible for him who believes.

Philippians 4:13: I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

When the devil tries to speak lies into your mind, you need to expel them and replace them with God’s truth and with positive words. Say it loudly and repetitively!

Proverbs 13:2: From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things.

Proverbs 18:20-21: From the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

I started to say out loud a couple weeks ago, several times a day every day: “I am organized! I am clean!” The more I said this, the less I believed and repeated the devil’s lies that I was an unorganized person! I grew more confident every time I repeated “I am organized! I am clean!” I’ve heard this principal taught by Joyce Meyers and other evangelists and I have seen my dad live his life this way. But I have never really put it in to practice. I was blown away at how powerful and effective this really was!

A little over a week ago, the transformation started! The Lord gave me the time, motivation, energy, and tools to get my house organized and clean! Over the past week, there are some new truths in my house that NEVER were for the past 4+ years of home ownership: my kitchen sink is empty! My counters are cleared, clean, and organized! My laundry is under control. No more mountains of dirty laundry, nor baskets or piles of clean laundry to put away. No more tripping over clutter. It’s been an amazing and unbelievable change. God is cleaning house for me on the inside and out! To God be all the praise and glory!

I hope you are encouraged to live positively, with faith, and by the Holy Spirit. I leave you with this powerful scripture:

2 Corinthians 3:16-18: But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

God bless!
Love,
Sarah

P.S. What was I doing during that time? Well, I was pregnant, and honestly, for a lot of that time, I was feeling very heavy in my heart and mind...some might say depressed. I think this was from a combination of hormones and just plain dissapointment with regard to my progress in the music and ministry. But God was testing my patience and my faithfulness...my trust in Him. I have realized that we have seasons in our life...sometimes we are moving forward fast and suddenly, and sometimes it looks like nothing is happening, but it's just a season and God still has a designated plan and timing behind the scenes. If I were to write this post after I saw a big move of God, that wouldn't be a very good testament to my faith and trust...instead, I am writing this knowing that God is still at work, and He will get the glory when I and everyone sees Him moving!

When times are tough and things are not going our way, all we can do is choose to trust Him, to be joyful, to be thankful, and to let go of anxiety and embrace God's peace! Psalms 30:5 says "...His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." If we meditate on this scripture, we can be assured that though trials may come, they don't last forever. God's favor remains with us and joy comes in the morning! While I believe "morning" is a metaphor to the new season in our life (after the trial), I also believe that we can literally embrace God's joy every morning. Every day we are given is a blessing...a fresh start to exude God's joy, peace, and love. We can't control people and situations but we can control our responses.

Sometimes God will calm the storms in our life, but sometimes He wants us to lean on Him so that we can be calm during the storm. In Mark 4:37-40, while Jesus was in a boat with his disciples: "A furious squall (a sudden violent wind often with rain or snow) came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, 'Teacher, don't you care if we drown?' He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'" This scripture indicates that our fear and anxiety during a storm in our life shows lack of faith.

One song that depicts this well is "Sometimes He Calms the Storm." Check out this link to listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ti1SULYteI&feature=related.

Some good news I would like to share is that an Evensong worship concert event is being held at the Westminster Church of God this Sunday, March 21 at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and I am honored that one of my songs is included in this event, and the event will be recorded onto a live album. Contact me if you would like more details. Alternatively, you can visit the church's site for more information at http://www.westcog.org/.

I hope you can keep me in prayers and I am always thinking of and praying for my loved ones!

I love you and God bless,

Sarah
<!--

I want my blessings and my breakthroughs now! Many Christians would rather make things happen themselves or just completely give up rather than to wait. This is really natural. But it’s important to remember that waiting is not the same as giving up. We are to wait expectantly and to seek and to look for His guidance to take the next step. Sometimes we don’t understand why God would let His people go through trials and struggles, but I believe with every trial, we get wiser and stronger and our faith grows as we see that God is faithful. And most importantly, God gets the glory, not you! Actually, I think as Christians, we would be pretty spoiled and prideful if we got everything we wanted when we wanted it without any effort! Matthew 5:45 says “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” God never promised an easy, carefree life for His people.

Right now, I've come to a complete standstill with the music ministry. I had to focus on the baby (now I’m 19 weeks pregnant) and it seems that my voice has changed because of hormones and it’s not usually a good idea to spend a lot of money in the recording studio when you have a hormonally altered voice! A year ago, I thought I’d be making a full album this year. I thought huge things were going to happen in 2009! Then I got one reality check after another. The next thing I knew, I could only record four songs because that is all I could afford. Then, the whole music making process was so stressful and I was facing harder decisions than I ever imagined so I had to take a step back! Now that I've been resting, I feel like I could possibly move forward, but it isn't wise because of my voice, and I also feel that God has given me a bigger responsibility right now, which is taking care of the baby. I don’t even know when I’ll have the opportunity to pick it back up! Maybe I will after I have the baby in 2010; maybe not! But I’m trusting that God has a plan for me and He has a perfect timing! Isaiah 40:31 says: “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Whenever I find myself trying hard to make things happen that are just not working, I get extremely stressed out and begin to lean on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6), which for men, is usually doubting and using the wrong means to make things work! When I give it over to the Lord and wait on Him, He gives me a peace and a rest! Right now, I’m resting, and it has honestly been a big relief! As much as it has been disappointing that things did not happen when I wanted them to, I am so thankful for God’s rest, and trusting that when His time comes, He will let me know, and I will be running and soaring!

I hope this encourages you as you are waiting on God’s promises. Stand on God’s promises, not the devil’s lies!

God bless,
Sarah

P.S. Our baby is supposed to be a girl, and we are naming her Cloey or Khloe!
<!--

August was a really crazy month. I have been collaborating with Eric Byrd on music for four of my songs. Then, I thought I was ready to record but had a couple monkey wrenches thrown into my plans! For one, without going into any detail, there was a lot of drama and what seemed like opposition to me throughout the whole music making process. Also, as many of you know, I had a couple of scares with my baby (I’m 13 weeks pregnant) that brought me to the hospital twice so far. But there’s been a lot of prayer and support, and right now, the doctor/nurses are saying that baby looks great, has a strong heart rate and movement, and is a good size for how far along he/she is. I’m believing and hoping for the best. It’s quite possible that the stress of trying to orchestrate everything with the music and get it done while I’m pregnant is what got to me, so that’s why I’m resolving to make the baby my only priority right now and take a rest from music, as much as I want to get this done yesterday! My mother-in-law and husband have been taking good care of me and my son so that I can rest, thank God!

I’ll share a post from David Wilkerson’s (founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York City) blog that really spoke to me in my current situation and maybe it will speak to you too:

"Stop trying to figure out how and why you got hurt. Your situation is not unique at all. Whether you were right or wrong means absolutely nothing at this point. All that matters is your willingness to move on in God and trust his mysterious workings in your life.

'…Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy' (1 Peter 4:12, 13).

Most likely you did what you had to do. You moved in the will of God, honestly following your heart, willing to give of yourself. Love was your motivation. You did not abort the will of God, someone else did. If that were not true, you would not be the one who is hurting so. You are hurt because you tried to be honest.

You can’t understand why things blew up in your face, when God seemed to be leading all along. Your heart asks, 'Why did God allow me to get into this in the first place if he knew it would never work out right?' Even Judas was called by the Lord; he was destined to be a man of God. He was handpicked by the Savior and was used of God. But Judas aborted God’s plan and broke the heart of Jesus! What started out as a plan of God ended in disaster because Judas chose to go his own way.

Lay off all your guilt trips. Stop condemning yourself. Stop trying to figure out what you did wrong. It is what you are thinking right now that really counts with God. You did not make a mistake; more than likely, you simply gave too much. Like Paul, you have to say, 'The more I loved, the less I was loved' (see 2 Corinthians 12:15)."

I can’t say I agree with this word for word, but overall, the message was really timely and encouraging. Also, some of you know I was a big fan of Danny Gokey on American Idol last season. He is a Christian and sang a lot of inspirational songs with passion, conviction, and soul during the show. He just got signed to a record label who is taking him in the direction of country music with a soulful edge, due to his excellent delivery of Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood songs on American Idol. This instantly made me think of a country song I wrote called “He’s Not Finished With You”, and I just wanted to tell you that I secretly (or not so secretly) wish that he could sing this song! I think it would fit perfectly with his life testimony and singing style. I just wanted to put it out there so you can pray for me and maybe give advice/tips on how one goes about doing this? I think it’s worth a shot.

God bless and thanks for keeping in touch.

Love you all!
Sarah
<!--

Some of my friends went to a Joyce Meyer conference in Hershey, PA this weekend. I so wanted to go but couldn’t make it, but Joyce Meyer didn’t start her ministry until her early 30's, and it didn’t have far reaching impact until much later. Now she’s in her 60’s and going strong! That is part of why she’s so inspiring to me. The truth is, God can use anyone at any age. Look at Sara, Abraham’s wife in the Bible...He didn’t begin to use her to be the mother of many generations and nations of Israelites until she was 90! Satan will lie to you (John 8:44), and remind you of all the mistakes you made and tell you you’re useless or you’re too old or you’re too ugly, etc...don’t let the devil lie to you! Stand on the promises God has made to you! The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6: “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

The Word also encourages us not to be “double minded”….in other words, not have some faith mixed with some doubt…to be steadfast in believing God’s Word!...

James 1:2-18 says:
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business. Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created."

Often, when something I wanted for a long time (years and years) finally comes...my hubby seems a little sheepish that it took us so long to get it, but then I remind him, we can appreciate blessings (and victory) sooo much more when we've waited so long and worked so hard for it...we can really enjoy it!

Finally, I will leave you with some lyrics from my song “Nobody Told Me”…despite all of the trials and hardships in life, “You can be wise, you can survive, you can arise, be more than alive; You can fly above all the lies; keep going high into sky; you can believe in your dreams; you can achieve almost anything! (Philippians 4:13) So get on your knees so you can see what I’m telling you”….

Keep the faith!! Feel free to post a comment on my blog about how God is still using you! What are the promises He made to you in secret that you must shout to the world?! (Matthew 10:27)

Love,
Sarah
<!--

But I haven't been feeling well because I am expecting my second baby sometime near March 8, 2010! It's interesting how before a mother can have a baby, she must endure a lot of trials, morning sickness, inability to sleep well, aches and pains, and of course the big hurdle of labor and delivery! It's also interesting how the worst pain comes right before the blessing...I have been fortunate to hear the preachings of Evangelist Danette Crawford of Joy Ministries many times, and she speaks a lot about how God prepares us for our calling in life, and for the next phase in life. At one of her conferences in Virginia, she illustrated how sometimes there is just a thin paper (metaphorically) between us and our next breakthrough; we just have to break through it! When things get tough, if we knew we were so close, we wouldn't so easily give up. A laboring mother knows that baby is coming out any minute, so she doesn't give up. Likewise, we should always know and trust in God that our next breakthrough is coming. Keep the hope and never give up!

This concept has kept me going lately, because the process leading up to recording my songs has been a difficult road. This is something that's been in my heart for well over a year. Really, it's been probably at least 10 years, but over a year since I started writing the songs. I'm someone who didn't have the money, the confidence, or the ability to do anything besides write the lyrics and sing the melody. I don't write chords or play any instruments so it's tough for someone in this position to go anywhere with their music. It would have been easy for me to give up on the idea altogether or settle for something less than I knew what God had for me...but I feel led by the Holy Spirit to keep pressing, and when obstacles arise, I still feel a peace and feel encouraged that in the end, it is going to be great and my labor will not be in vain! Please pray for me during this process of music making, and most of all, that the music will be annointed and that God will open the doors for the music to be heard so that it can draw hearts closer to Him. I would also like for people to join me in faith that these few songs I am recording right now are not the end, and that I will be able to do more in the future.

One thing coming up locally, in the immediate future, is a Christian Coffee House night. It's at the Westminster First Church of God on August 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. The location is 27 North Center Street in Westminster, MD. There will be musical performances, poetry readings, and light refreshments. If you write or are musically inclined and are interested in participating, you can contact Sister Brenda Clarke at 410-596-2097. Or you can contact me (sarahvministry@gmail.com) and let me know what you're thinking and I can pass the information onto her. In any event, I hope you can make it! I hope to be singing one or two songs myself. Admission is free, and the church will be collecting donations to help cover the cost of refreshments.

God bless you!

Love,
Sarah
<!--

I was told I would be able to participate in something this month but it fell through, and that's why I'd rather wait until something is happening until I let you know!

This brings to mind an important point in the Bible in Matthew 5:34-37: "But I tell you, do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one." This means there is no need to swear or promise because we should be people of our words! Don't you ever get tired of people who don't follow through with what they said? Be a person of integrity and do what you said! When people tell me they're going to do something, I really count on it, maybe naively at this point, but because I always strive to follow through with my word, I take people at face value.

I haven't been up to that much lately for the ministry. I've just been trying to perfect my songs and get them ready to possibly record. I've been studying the Bible and Bible-based books. The Bible says to study to show yourself approved, and that's exactly what I'm working on!

I have also had the priviledge to start working with a young girl in our church for private voice lessons. I got a very timely blessing of vocal technique CD's that I am working with her on. After I agreed to help her, God provided the CDs! The Lord will provide when you take a step of faith! I'm also working with a friend to help our church teens with putting together songs to perform at church. My friend, Trish, and I did not feel ready or quite knew how this was going to work with the teens, but just as I knew He would, the Lord is working through our willingness and through those teens! They have already blessed Trish and I tremendously with their enthusiasm and hearts of worship and praise. I believe big things will come of this in our church!

Know that God uses the humble and willing, not necessarily who the world would consider "qualified"! So I encourage you to have a willing heart for whatever the Lord would lead you to do. He will show you a need or give you a vision of something to come. He will plant the desire in your heart...

Well, keep in touch with me and keep me in prayers! God bless!

Love,
Sarah
<!--

I have quoted this scripture before. In Ephesians 6:15-20, the Word reminds us to make the most of life and every opportunity:

"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

In James 4:14 and 17, the Word again reminds us that life is short and we need to do good in our short life:

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

However, God’s is gracious, loving, and merciful!! I was so excited this morning to find out that in the end, Michael Jackson received Jesus Christ as his savior. Several weeks ago, Sandra and Andre Crouch spent some time with Michael Jackson. Michael asked them to play “It Won’t Be Long and We’ll Be Leaving Here.” Then he prayed with them and accepted Christ into his heart. How the Angels must have been rejoicing! But sadly, you won’t hear about that on TMZ or other Entertainment shows. As most of you probably know, there was a thief who was crucified with Jesus. He expressed his faith in Jesus as he was dying, and Jesus assured him he was saved! There is also a lovely parable in the Bible about how God freely gives of His mercy to those who receive it. In Matt 20:1-16:

"For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who was the master of a household, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. He went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. To them he said, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. About the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle. He said to them, ‘Why do you stand here all day idle?’ "They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ "He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is right.’ When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.’ "When those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came, they each received a denarius. When the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise each received a denarius. When they received it, they murmured against the master of the household, saying, ‘These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat!’ "But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Didn’t you agree with me for a denarius? Take that which is yours, and go your way. It is my desire to give to this last just as much as to you. Isn’t it lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?’ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen."

As you have probably guessed, this represents the people who were saved in the end versus those who were Christians for years and years. No person is more worthy of His grace than another! You just have to repent of your sins and turn your life over to God and accept His salvation!

Finally, I just wanted to share a little bit of good news. I have been participating in swagbucks.com. This is a site like Google, except you earn points when you search. Then, you can redeem points for prizes. Well, I entered some points I earned into a “swagstakes” for a little keyboard and DVD lessons to learn piano, and I won! This will not only be beneficial for my husband and I to start learning piano, but also for our kids, as the system is actually designed for children to learn piano. Praise God for giving us another desire of our heart! He is good and faithful.

Let me leave you with a final word of encouragement from Psalms 34:8-15:

"Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry."

God bless!

Love,
Sarah
<!--

I was asked to be a backup singer on an R&B Christian album by local artist Rob Howze. He has a youth outreach ministry called World Wide Community. My father took the day off and kept me company and made sure I didn’t get lost! It was about an hour and a half away! But it was really worth it because we had an adventurous day! It was a nice new experience and I think I took out a lot more knowledge about studio work. It really is work. You may think people are just playing and having fun singing in the studio, but it actually quite time consuming and meticulous! Fortunately, Rob sent me a rough copy of the songs weeks ago, so I was able to listen and get it into my spirit, understand how the melody and lyrics go, and start to think about how I can contribute to the songs.

Rob is pretty sharp and spontaneous in his creativity. While I like to plan and work on music for a while in my home, he can come up with things the day of recording! But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I can be a little spontaneous too, and Rob took a few of my suggestions and implemented them into the recordings. Also, I took note that I want to take a page out of Rob’s collaboration book when I record down the road. He was working with four female singers (myself included) and he had a nice balance of directing the process and listening to and responding to our input. He was also very patient with our mistakes and retakes, because it took a lot of takes to get every part done. We spent over an hour collaborating and practicing two songs, and then over three hours in the studio recording those two songs, and they weren’t even finished! He mostly got the female vocals and will do his vocals later on, and of course there’s mixing and mastering, so I don’t know when I’ll have a copy of these tracks but I’m anxious to hear it. Once I get Rob’s okay, I’ll be sure to share the recordings, probably by uploading them to my MySpace Music site. I wanted to take pictures to share but we were literally too busy for pictures. It was nonstop singing but I loved every minute of it!

Another bit of exciting news is that the guy running the studio really seemed to like what he heard. He took my business card and said he may be contacting me about backing up other artists! Please keep me in prayer to continue going through the right doors and that the Lord will close the doors that I should not enter.

Obedience is really the way! I am finding more and more over time, when I do things that God is leading me to do that I don't feel ready for or I don't know how they will work, by taking a small step of obedience and faith, He does the rest of it for me! God is good and faithful! Hallelujah!

Ephesians 6:7-8: "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he
does..."

Thanks for your support and love. God bless!

Love,
Sarah
<!--

I have had a lot going on! Rich's family from California was in town the last couple weeks and I was busy writing Ehow articles as well. You can view my articles at the Ehow website. Among them, I have one for single women about getting a good Christian man!

I want to thank everyone who voted for my song at yourhymn.com! I missed the next round by one vote, but I do appreciate the support I received from almost 40 people!

On May 23, I visited a local church and sang and ministered for a fundraiser for Mason Dixon Youth for Christ, which is an outreach to young people in and around my area. That went pretty well and that is opening doors to sing at other events at that church. Also, I had a couple family members who have fallen away from the church, but they did make it to this function, which I was excited about!

Additionally, I previously put an ad on Craigslist to offer up my services to sing and minister at local Christian functions, churches, weddings, etc. I had someone respond, so the exciting news is that I will be a back up singer on a Christian R&B album! While this is not a paid gig, it should be a great experience and maybe even open doors down the road! I keep reminding myself of the scripture where the Lord says not to despise small beginnings! I have been doing a lot of free gigs, but I am sowing and I trust the Lord that I will reap the rewards of what I sow! Of course, the primary goal is to be a light and a witness and to shine God's glory and Word!

Another bit of exciting news is that I'm looking into other options for recording my songs. As I mentioned before, I am not yet able to afford a professional studio because it normally costs anywhere from $5,000 to tens of thousands of dollars to make an album. Therefore, I am talking to a local church worship leader who has experience with putting together original songs from scratch. He writes songs himself, plays piano and guitar, and has a private set up for recording. I am sure it is a lot more limited than a full blown recording studio, but I feel a lot more at peace about going this route to start working on my music. I am thankful that he has agreed to start working with me very soon!

Finally, I feel that the Lord has been working on a lot of things in me, and one of them is being flexible. I used to be more of a controlling person that had to have my way and have it right now! I hated when plans fell through, but if you are to be used by the Lord, you need to be flexible! I have been noticing more and more as time goes by, when plans fall through, I get over it fast, and I just make new plans! Also, I want to encourage you to be flexible to stop and do what the Lord is calling you to do in the moment, whether it be praying over yourself or someone else, having quiet time to listen to the Lord, praying or witnessing to someone, giving to someone, and agreeing to last minute plans (if you feel the Holy Spirit is leading you to), etc.

Romans 8:14 says "those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God". Galatians 5:25 says "since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit". John 16:13 says "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."

Be blessed!

Love,
Sarah
<!--

I am curious how that has gone for you? I am still working on it! I was probably successful two out of every three days, because sometimes I got caught up in other things while Joey (my son) was napping, and his nap/sleep times are usually the only times of the day I can have quiet. Some of you may only have quiet times while you’re driving to work or while you wake up in the middle of the night. Use any opportunity you have to get into God’s presence. I am working on being more disciplined and I am learning that God’s grace and mercy are never ending! We should not live in a state of guilt and condemnation because there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, who are filled by His Holy Spirit and set their minds on His guidance (read Romans 8:1-17).

I want to share a new video I made for an original song. It is called Your Sins Are Washed Away, and my primary purpose for writing this song was to help draw the lost/unsaved closer to God and to begin the process of accepting His grace, love, and forgiveness. As Christians, our biggest goal in life, no matter what your occupation or circumstance, should be to shine God’s glory through the fruit of the Spirit. The popular acronym WWJD asks the question “What would Jesus do?” in any given situation. This is a really a great question to ask yourself daily. Jesus lived by the fruits of the Spirit. In Matthew 7:16, Jesus says that you can identify His people by their fruit. There isn’t a much better explanation, in the Word, of the difference between living by the sinful nature versus living by the Holy Spirit than in Galatians 5:16-25. I used Webster to help elaborate some of the words in parenthesis:

“So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery (extreme indulgence in sensuality); idolatry (the worship of a physical object or something as a god) and witchcraft (the use of sorcery or magic); hatred, discord (promoting quarreling or conflict), jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions (a tendency to quarrels and disputes), factions (cliques) and envy; drunkenness, orgies (many definitions by Webster), and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (being reliable and trustworthy), gentleness (free from harshness, sternness, and violence) and self-control (restraint over one’s impulses, emotions, and desires). Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

I will leave you with my new video.

God bless you!
Love,
Sarah

P.S. On a lighter note, agree with me in prayer that Danny Gokey (from American Idol) will sign a recording contract for a Christian Gospel album! That would be so awesome!
<!--

That's because my spirit is freshly fed and inspired by Sunday church! There's a LOT to be said about going to church. Christians aren't (or shouldn't be) going to church to go through the motions or because they feel obligated to. If we open up our minds, hearts, and souls, we can be fed from the manna of heaven! The sad thing is, I also realize I should be inspired every day, not just Sundays.

My mother-in-law sang "Word of God Speak" yesterday. It's one of those songs most people hear and think it's really pretty, but you don't really think about the meaning or let it minister to you, but when someone delivers a song with a few choice words beforehand, it can have such a big impact. Myself, I've heard it dozens of times without really thinking about it. Yesterday, my mother-in-law spoke about how our times of waiting in the Lord may seem kind of like torture to us (my translation), but they are relished by God, and they can be relished by us too! We should be spending time in His presence every day, not just praying, not just reading the Word, not just listening to uplifting music, but silently in His presence waiting expectantly and eagerly for a word from Him. Actually, I don't know ANYONE who does this better than my mother-in-law...I lived with her for three years before my husband and I moved into our own home, and she spent time with the Lord the first thing every morning, and I don't know anyone who displays the fruits of the spirit better than her either! Joy, peace, love, goodness, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness, faithfulness, and temperance. My pastor's wife, Sister Marge, is another great example of someone who displays these fruits of the spirit so beautifully.

Will you join me in doing this at least 10 minutes every day, without any outside or inside distractions? I want to start doing this! I've been thinking about how I can be productive in this time of waiting and besides trying to read the Word and work on music, it has kind of eluded me, and after yesterday, I have realized, I really just need to rest in the Lord. I started today for 10 minutes...every time I do this (and it's been a while), I feel so strongly His presence and love, that it brings me to tears...every time!! He IS our daily bread and drink. As for a Word from the Lord I received today, the only thing I heard was that I need to do this every day and I will hear more and more from Him, and He will make my path so clear.

I will leave you with a video for "Word of God Speak".

God bless!

Sarah
<!--

In a month, as many of you know, I am participating in the Hymn Sing fundraiser for Youth for Christ at the First Church of God of Westminster. You can see my upcoming events if you are my friend on myspace or facebook. Actually, you can see my myspace even if you don't have an account. It's at http://www.myspace.com/sarahvministry and on facebook, just look up my name and you'll recognize my face. :) Right now, I just have two events and haven't put the second one up because it's too early. I am confident the Lord will open doors for me and start to fill up my calendar more! In the meantime, I'm enjoying life and being productive with my time. I am working on music and Bible studying so that I will be ready to step out when God calls me to.

A few nights ago, I went to a local coffeehouse with a girlfriend. She also has kids and every once in a while, we like to get away. We both try to be thrifty with our money so we rarely eat out together. We just go to a coffeehouse and get a coffee and talk for hours. I love the fellowship! Anyway, I didn't know that I was walking into an "open mic night" at this coffeehouse. I have never been to one before, but I always wanted to try it. Needless to say, I had no musicians to back me up and didn't specifically prepare anything to sing, but the Word says in 2 Timothy 4:2: "be prepared in season and out of season." So I put my name on the sign-up list, and when I went up, I spoke a few words about my salvation and sang a couple of my original songs a cappella. I still don't know what impact, if any, was made, but it was a really positive experience for me, and someone expressed interest in my visiting and ministering at a church function.

I have noticed a lot recently the Holy Spirit directing me to suddenly step into things I wasn't prepared for. I can already see that this is helping me grow and be more flexible. We can be so much more powerfully used if we are only available to God!

I just want to encourage you that every time you boldly follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, you will be blessed and other people will be blessed by it. In Christ, there's no more need to be fearful. We are new creatures in Christ. All the old things have passed away, so anything anyone ever told you that you negative about yourself, or anything you even believe about yourself and boxes you put yourself in, you need to get rid of that stinkin' thinkin' and let God turn you around!

God bless you all and keep in touch! I love the e-mails people send me. It's very encouraging.

Love,
Sarah
<!--

He was sick from Tuesday through Saturday. Easter Sunday, we stayed home to ensure his full recovery, and I found out that my mother-in-law couldn't sleep Saturday night and was up till the wee hours of the morning crying and praying for my son. And what a difference in him between Saturday and Sunday! He has literally bounced back and I am thrilled! What a beautiful Easter the Lord gave us. There's nothing like getting sick to put life into perspective! I see now that I was stressing out way too much and not stopping to smell the roses. I am determined to enjoy the here and now while I press on toward what God wants me to do.

When the Hebrews were delivered from Egypt, it didn't take them long to moan and complain in the wilderness and to get sick of the manna that God sent them to sustain them. They quickly lost sight of God's faithfulness to see them through every trial, and all of the miracles He performed to get them out of Egypt. Many Christians are like this today, and I have been guilty of this. We quickly lose sight of the pit that God pulled us out of and start to moan and complain when we feel like we're going nowhere and stuck in a wilderness. But deep down, I KNOW that my God is faithful! Like the Natalie Grant song says, I'm in better hands now! I have no reason to fear, be anxious, or be doubtful!

Right now I'm watching Joyce Meyer, and she encourages us not to lay down and give up! Keep perservering and keep the faith and hope! Boy, God has really used Joyce as an inspiration in my life. Thank God for encouragers like Joyce! Remember, Joyce's wilderness was more than 30 years! She didn't get called into ministry till her 30's and getting to where she is now, in her 60's, was a very long process. We should never be hasty to jump ahead of God, because He wants to make sure we are ready and that everything else is in line!

I don't have a recording of this song yet, but read the lyrics to my song "He's Not Finished With You", and have a blessed week!

What if Joseph never overcame the suffering?
And he lived his life thinkin’ I can’t win
And when Job lost almost everything
He gave up and stopped believin’?
What if David never threw that stone?
Saw the giant and lost all hope?
Where would we be then? Where would we be then?

He’s not finished with you; He’s just getting started!
There’s too much to do to give up now
If only you knew; if only you could see
The plans He has for you
Then you’d believe when I say…
He’s not finished with you

What if Daniel did not pray?
Face the lions and believe for a way?
What if Jesus never carried the cross?
‘Cause He could not bear the cost?
What if you spent your life hiding your light?
When faced with obstacles, you gave up the fight?
Where would we be then? Where would we be then?

He’s not finished with you; He’s just getting started!
There’s too much to do to give up now
If only you knew; if only you could see
The plans He has for you
Then you’d believe when I say…
He’s not finished with you

There’s a hunger deep inside that goes on endlessly
And nothing satisfies no matter who you try to be!

'Cause He’s not finished with you; He’s just getting started!
There’s too much to do to give up now
If only you knew; if only you could see
The plans He has for you
Then you’d believe when I say…
Believe me when I say!...
He’s not finished with you

Love,
Sarah
<!--

It’s quite an embarrassing one, but the truth is I have been leaning too much on my own strength rather than the Lord’s. Sometimes I forget the scripture in Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

I think sometimes God allows us to lean on our own strength until we reach a breaking point and have to come running to Him. I am at that breaking point. I am at the point where the planning turned into worries, then the worries turned into headaches and stress, the stress turned into my being sick and bedridden for the last two days, and today I am in tears. I realize the Lord wants me to stop trying to figure it all out on my own, and stop trying to figure out what He has planned next and how everything is going to work. For some reason, I thought I should know, but apparently, I can’t handle it! I realize, once again, that I need to turn it all over to Him in prayer and petition (Ephesians 6:18: "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints"). After I have done all I can, all I can do is stand and wait on Him (Ephesians 6:13).

It’s a long story, but to make a long story short...I thought I only needed $1,500 to make an album. Boy, was I naive! I found out that artists typically spend tens of thousands of dollars on a self made album. I had conversations with several people who made an album or who were involved with making and album and they all agreed with this, and they all said you get what you pay for, and if you produce and inexpensive album, it won’t sound good, and I need to hire professional musicians/instrumentalists for the album. Well, at this point, I have received donations of a little over $1,100, and that is after the money I have spent on things like copyrighting new song. I am very appreciative of these donations, and they will be put to good use!! The support and love I have been receiving is helping to sustain me in these difficult times of waiting.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNP2btIjcUHQF2SHzkOIOammT8zajpd27fb857bgdWtdeYJUVtUxwl4c4RbYxwvxIwjA_QUJyXeURrUkFLTUiawcFEfBkRMsd52RXsmkSJLCV9uaiygR2C2QSwFQRvhvI-bInpnm7wIQk/s400/studio+009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320612114715460674" />
Going forward, I plan to work full force on getting dates at local churches to sing and minister. I visited a recording studio today in Owings Mills and asked the producer what I can realistically do if I had $2,500. He said three songs…maybe one or two more if I’m lucky. Well, all this time, I have wanted to make a full album (and that's what I've been telling everyone!), so this idea of this hit me hard! He also told me I need to narrow down my songs to reach a specific audience, because I have quite a variety of songs (R&B and soul, rock, alternative, contemporary Christian, hymns, etc.) This was also a hard pill to swallow because I like the fact that there is variety in my music. Mind you, this man seems like a hardworking, ethical, and good Christian family man, and he was highly recommended to me. He has a lot of experience with producing and marketing great quality Christian music, and I believe what he is telling me is honest. The more I think about it, the more I do believe that releasing several great quality songs will be much better than potentially releasing a full, low quality album. This would be a start, and God can move mountains!

For the sake of avoiding a lengthy blog, I won’t go into the additional details of everything that’s been on my mind, but please pray for me that it will all come together! I don’t mean to overburden you with this, but please at least keep me in prayer (Matthew 18:19-20: "I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them"). My lists of prayer concerns includes setting up church visits, fundraising, music making (a big challenge for someone who doesn’t yet master an instrument), song selections, marketing, and waiting patiently on God’s timing.

I pray for abundant blessings for those who have already blessed my ministry financially or with their time and prayers. Thank you to Mark and Jen for your donation of voice lesson materials this past week (you know who you are!).

In the meantime, I will be praying and meditating harder than ever before, and I will be calling churches this coming week! I am confident I will have more good news to report to you next time!

Thank you and God bless you all!

Love,
Sarah

Psalms 119:145-148:
"I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD, and I will obey your decrees. I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes. I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises."
<!--

I am in that difficult period of waiting on the Lord! Sunday, I was supposed to work more on putting music to my songs, but the meeting was canceled and postponed till April. I have been hearing this message a lot that we need to act now, we need to go out and minister to the world, because TIME IS SHORT! Then, when things like this happen, I get a little impatient. I really do believe we should wait and trust in the Lord. On the other hand, I want things to happen fast!! But I know God has a perfect timing for everything. Here are some scriptures on waiting on the Lord:

Psalms 27:14 "Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD."

Psalms 130:5-6 "I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning."

Isaiah 40:29-31 "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Isaiah 64:4 " Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him."

Lamentations 3:24-25 "I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;"

Psalms 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

I hope you feel as encouraged by these scriptures as I do! Also, I previously spoke about facing our fears...well, apparently, I didn't have this concept down enough, because every corner I turn, I hear the same message again! I guess newletters from pastors and evangelists about fear! I turn on the t.v. to a minister, and he or she is speaking to me about fear! This is my focus right now, to consciously not be held back by fear and insecurity.

This week, I was blown away and taken aback that someone asked me to give their child voice lessons! As you can imagine, I have never done anything like that before! A few years ago, my fear and insecurity would have told me to say no. I have literally said no to a lot of things because of fear. But I have come to learn that each step I have taken through an open door has been a step of faith. It shows God that I trust Him to guide my steps. Every time I do this, He is faithful to see me through it, and I come out of each experience with so much joy, fulfillment, and wisdom, and I come out as person who is that much closer to being molded into who He wants me to be. If I keep my faced turned toward Him, He will take me from glory to glory:

2 Corinthians 3:16: "But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away (from their eyes). Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (no more fear!). And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory (from glory to glory), which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Praise God! Have a blessed week, and stay in prayer and in the Word.

Sarah
<!--

I mentioned before I was going to try to learn guitar, but I didn't have a guitar or ability to pay for lessons. One my family members felt moved to buy me a new guitar yesterday! It was such a surprise! I also have a couple people in my family who know guitar and can teach me, and I had someone offer to lend me his guitar lesson resources. I have also found there are a lot of free resources online instructing on the basics of playing guitar. Thank the Lord for providing!

I was talking to my dad, Reverend Ted Hill, about the blessings I have been receiving. He told me that God is moving and accelerating miracles and favors because time is short! What a sobering thought! But I know he is right. I'm not just making music for fun and games! God has a purpose for His people in these last days!

Also, my dad was sharing with his church a revelation and prophetic word that was received by Pastor David Wilkerson of Times Square Church in New York City. I urge you to check out Pastor David Wilkerson's blog and his post "An Urgent Message" at http://www.davidwilkersontoday.blogspot.com.

God bless!

Sarah

Galations 6:7-10: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
<!--

I have the remains of a cold that keeps waking me up really early, but somehow, God has been giving me strength and energy! I am sure the coffee helps too!

Yesterday was an awesome Sunday at church! My Pastor is starting to use me to help him lead praise and worship service. This part of the service normally lasts for 90 minutes. We are quite serious about our praise and worship! I think that's why I love my church so much. They have such a heart for God. They have no qualms about coming to the altar every single Sunday to just rest in God and worship and cry.

Well, as I was saying, my Pastor is a very in the moment, directed by the Holy Spirit type of Pastor. He doesn't tell me in advance whether or not he will have me lead. I walked in a minute after the music started and he beckoned me up front. I have pretty much gotten used to this unpredictability. After all, we should be flexible to be used by God. I have always been an "I must know and plan well in advance" type of person, so this has been quite a transition.

I was thrilled that the service turned out to be a supercharged, anointed praise and worship!! I can't take the credit because I haven't developed a lot of skill with leading. I'm just so thankful that God is using me in my inadequacy! I am thankful that he has taken me a long way from the girl that was petrified in the front of public speaking class, and the girl that was shaking in body and voice when she sang in front of a crowd.

After church was over, 4 people purchased a demo CD from me, which was also very exciting. I have been saving all of the money from purchases and donations toward my ministry so that I can eventually record an album of original Christian songs. So far, I'm up to about $1,180, and that is considering some money I spent to make and mail CD copies, copyright original songs, and things of that nature. My original goal was $1,500, because that is the estimate of cost for an album I recieved from a local studio/producer. At the time, it seemed impossible, but through Christ, all things are possible!!! Thank you so much to those who have supported me financially and in prayer! Please keep up the praying!!!

So, after church, I got together with some church musicians, Brian the pianist, Bob the guitarist, Mark the bass player, and Shawn, Jr. the drummer boy! I didn't intend to spend a long time practicing. But after 90 minutes of singing at church, then we practiced for over three hours! God really held up my voice that whole time, considering I have had a cold! It was awesome. We got a lot done! We started working on about seven of my songs. I am so humbled and honored that these guys are willing to give so freely of their time to help me in working towards a higher purpose!

I'm still trying to figure out some of the "minor" details (even though every detail is major and important to me!), like which musicians to use in which songs, which studio to record in, which songs to record, because finances won't permit recording all of my songs, which is about 20 songs. I need wisdom from God to pick the most effective songs for ministering to others! If anyone is interested in hearing my songs and giving some feedback, please let me know!!!!

I have a lot of decisions ahead of me, work to do, and money to spend. I know God will be faithful in guiding my steps as He always is.

God bless you all!

Love,
Sarah
<!--
