Great blog Sarah! I ...Comments from Sara Harrison:

Great blog Sarah! I think it's important for us to consider what true prosperity is, and what God's heart is for us! This was a good word!! :)

I really liked this part:

I believe what this is really saying is when you delight in the Lord, that means his principals of how to live life, how to love, how to bear fruits, and how to spend time in God’s presence and God’s Word are things you delight in. You strive to be Christ-like in your mind, heart, and actions. The more you strive for this, the more you are delighting yourself in the Lord. Then, the old fleshly desires you used to have are disappearing, because Jesus didn’t desire earthly riches, so the desires of your heart that God will give you don’t have anything to do with material gain.

I think people don't realize the importance of this idea...and that being a Christian means forgetting self, and thinking more of others, and furthering the kingdom of God!Sarah Von Bergenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02512064291417443628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7555928033130454729.post-39417536847085296412011-06-13T10:10:29.833-04:002011-06-13T10:10:29.833-04:00Comments from Brian DiMaggio posted with his permi...Comments from Brian DiMaggio posted with his permission:

I thought your comments were insightful and I enjoyed reading your blog. You very effectively blasted a hole right through the prosperity preachers false message of God wanting us to be rich by putting all of their "claimed scriptures" back into the context they were meant to be in. It was truly awesome. I think this is a message that needs to be heard everywhere.

I was sharing with a few friends recently about the only way I believe God would trust anyone he loved with money: I believe that it is only when we have no attachment to it that God can trust us with it. It is when we are willing to listen and to obey His voice when he tells us to give it away.

God is the same yesterday today and forever, but he is different to each of us. I'll explain.

To the poor, he is their provision when they trust Him; but to the wealthy he can be the joy of giving. When we obey and share with those in need, God will trust us with more. Because we choose to become his hand of provision when we give generously and obediently. This lines up with God's word. I'll explain.

He tried to show this beautiful truth to the young wealthy man when he told him to go sell his possessions and give them to the poor. The rich man did not know the joy of giving God's way. His desire to hold on to his wealth kept him from the only benefit it could have ever brought him. And that was as Jesus called it, "Treasure in heaven."

When we choose to be God's hand of provision to those in need, we prove that we can be trusted to handle financial prosperity. If not, that prosperity will lead us completely away from Him.

I have heard so many messages about why God tested the rich man "Job." But the truest message about the book comes from Job himself when he says, "The lord gives, and the lord takes away, Blessed be the name of the Lord."

This was a man who truly understood and could handle wealth because was not attached to it as most men are. God knew this and used Satan to prove his point. In the end, Job was blessed more than ever and glory was given to God not for his wealth, but for his ability to handle the loss of it. I believe that God saw an opportunity to bless Job and to disgrace satan's pride at the same time. Satan claimed that Job's love for God would disappear with his wealth. But once again, God shows us that he knows the motives of the heart.

But It is not until this lesson of the joy of giving is learned that we can fully understand the proverb that says " the generous man will become wealthy, by watering those around him, he also waters himself" or the parable of the talents when the master says, "You have been faithful in a few things now you will be trusted with many."

God takes pleasure when we share what we have.

I believe that one of the most key fundamental parts of handling money is to understand the scripture that tells us to give in secret. That way God gets all of the glory.

I believe that God only leaves us in want or need just long enough to separate us from our pride and to show us that our provision truly comes from him. We would not want believers to mistakenly think that God can only use us if we are poor. Because that would not be true.

I have no personal love of money. And I know that it is a stumbling block for so many. But when we free ourselves from the desire of holding on to it, then we are free to handle it. I'm not talking about a spending spree or giving away all we have. God does want us to provide for our family and to be a good stewart of what we have been given. What I am talking about is obedience when God speaks to us to meet a need.

My words are not just about things I've found in the Bible. They're things I've lived and learned in my personal life through experience. I hope this is helpful.Sarah Von Bergenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02512064291417443628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7555928033130454729.post-38368013280483965892011-05-21T21:52:17.487-04:002011-05-21T21:52:17.487-04:00Thank you Tim! Sometimes I wonder if the fear we wrestle with is rooted in our past experiences or lack of faith or insecurities. Fear has taken forms in my life in sneaky little ways....ways that I didn't realize that it was fear holding me back in an area. God continually blesses us with revelation so that we may be more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37) and overcome those things that try to hold us back. Love the messages, they are encouraging! You are anointed Sarah, keep them coming:-)
God Bless,
Tiffany

Amen Sarah! Fear is paralyzing. And it can be so scary when you reach out to do something, knowing you might fail. It does stop us from doing a lot of things. Sometimes it doesn't - but we wish it had!

I think we need to rely on God to help us make decisions, and to face fears. If you don't have peace about it, trust that it's your Holy Spirit, warning you that it's not the right time and/or place to go forward. Find another path, and still search for His will for your life. Stay on His path, and it will surely be the most rewarding one. :) God bless, and thank you for sharing!!

SaraSarah Von Bergenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02512064291417443628noreply@blogger.com
